Senior School

Our Senior School encompasses RAD Ballet Grades from Primary to Solo Seal, and students now have the option to extend their dance program into a variety of other dance styles including Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, JFH, Fitball and Aerial Classes.

In the lower levels, we focus on developing a strong technical foundation and building confidence in a fun and positive learning environment. As students progress, the focus is on increasing skill level, refining technique and developing artistry. Students are also encouraged to extend themselves through participation in eisteddfods, scholarships, dance tours, workshops and classes with guest teachers and choreographers.

Ballet

An artistic form of elegant and refined movement, ballet training at Promenade promotes good posture, poise and strength, while developing confidence and self-esteem within each individual.

Teaching the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Syllabus and open classes, opportunities exist for both the young enthusiastic dancer and the aspiring professional student. Classes are available for girls and boys from Pre-Primary to Solo Seal. Students are invited to sit for an Examination or Class Award from Primary Ballet upwards.

Fitball for Ballet

Students will use an exercise ball to execute the Progressing Ballet Technique program developed by RAD Examiner, Marie Walton-Mahon. Students will develop a better understanding of posture, core stability, weight placement, alignment and improve their overall strength.

The Dance Shop

Located in our new fully purpose built studios, we have a fully stocked dancewear shop catering for all our students requirements.

Contemporary

Pushing classical boundaries, contemporary offers the dancer emotional freedom and expression through abstract movement. Utilising all dimensions, contemporary dance can explore the self and interpret the broader external elements of life.

These classes are available for ballet students from Grade 3 onwards.

Tap

A fun and rhythmical form of dance encouraging both musicality and co-ordination. Using clarity in sound, energy and dynamic, Tap builds on a percussive style that can accentuate rhythms, or make music of its own.

Promenade teaches the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus.

Students may commence Tap classes from the age of 5 onwards (Prep age at school).

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre combines acting, music, song and dance. The emotional content of the piece – humor, grief, love, anger – as well as the story itself, is communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

Jazz

A modern and energetic style of dance for all ages that combines popular music with strong and dynamic movement. Jazz at Promenade builds on the already vast variety of styles by continuing to incorporate choreography that is innovative and entertaining. Jazz classes offer a unique and fun program that promotes both fitness and flexibility.

JFH (Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop)
JFH brings together the best elements of these three styles of commercial dance. Combining the strength and precision of jazz with the style and dynamics of Funk and Hip Hop, students will learn basic jazz technique along with different Hip Hop styles in a fun and high energy class!

Now available in 2 levels!
JFH Junior – 7-9yrs
JFH Intermediate – 10+yrs

Classes taken by Michael Edge.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics involves balance, agility and coordination. Students benefit greatly from the limbering and stretching skills that are developed, and the increased flexibility gained from acrobatics complements many other dance styles. All Acrobatics classes are practiced on acrobatic mats to ensure the safety of all students.

Private Tuition

Private dance tuition is available in all facets of dance at Promenade. Private lessons can be arranged for exam preparation, solo routines or for extra tuition to extend ones curriculum. Private singing coaching is also available.

Performance Opportunities

Concert – held annually in November at Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. A spectacular and diverse showcase of talent and creativity, this is a great opportunity for students to turn practice into performance! Our favourite time of year – we love to see our students shine! Participation is optional.

Eisteddfod Team – group eisteddfods provide a great foundation for the aspiring performer. Students work hard to reach a high standard of technique and performance, and learn self-discipline and commitment. Eisteddfod kids build great friendships through this fun, team experience!

Dance Tours – Promenade offers students in our Senior School the opportunity to travel interstate and overseas to perform and participate in master classes and workshops with industry professionals. Students recently travelled to the USA taking classes at The Edge in LA, and Alvin Ailey, Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Centre in New York. Performances included Disneyland in Anaheim and pre-game entertainment at the Staples Centre in LA. Check out all the action in our photo gallery!
